Kyiv, Ukraine–Biden administration Members of a bipartisan Congressional delegation visiting Kyiv on Saturday said the Pentagon should be allowed to deploy US military advisers to Ukraine to help coordinate billions of dollars in weapons flowing into the country and maintain better arms control.
“I think we should do more,” Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla.the first green hat elected to Congress, told Fox News after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
However, Waltz continued, “It has to come with proper safeguards, with proper oversight, and the only way we can get that oversight is to actually have some advisers in Ukraine to help their military with planning and logistics.”
When asked whether this includes sending US Army personnel For Ukraine, Waltz said it might be.
It could be contracted, it could be civilian, but it could also be military,” Waltz said. Those consultants who manage logistics and arms transfers are currently deployed in Germany and Poland.
Representative Mickey Sherrill (DNJ) also traveled to Ukraine on Saturday as part of the delegation. She also signaled her support for a larger American presence on the ground as well.
“It would be nice to have a logistics officer here to make sure we understand and track the weapons we’re sending,” Cheryl told Fox News.
Both lawmakers said the advisers would help bolster the presence at the US embassy in Kyiv and help in other areas.
“I don’t think anyone is defending anything [American] The military is on the front line, but assisting with logistics, planning for those operations, and integrating intelligence is very important right now,” Waltz said.
Cheryl said: “The Ukrainians are doing a very good job, but they said they would like to pass on information about how they are being tracked [weapons] But they need someone to pass that on to.”
Also called the waltz Europe “step up” And contribute more weapons and aid to help Ukraine. The United States has allocated three times as much money from the 27-nation European Union combined to Ukraine, according to the New York Times.
Waltz noted Britain’s contributions to the war effort by sending billions of weapons. The British government was one of the few countries in NATO to call for Russia’s complete defeat in Ukraine, including by calling for the restoration of its occupied territories in Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
Waltz said the Biden administration should not only “help Ukraine play for some time, but help it win.” “At least, what we talked about today is bringing them back to the 2014 streak.”
Asked whether existing rules of engagement restrictions that ban weapons supplied by the United States to strike targets inside Russian territory should be lifted, Waltz said there are plenty of targets inside Ukraine that should be destroyed first.
Russo-Ukrainian War: The White House Still Helping “Facilitate” Zelensky’s Protection
On Saturday, Russia launched a missile attack on Odessa, Ukraine’s largest port, less than 24 hours after the two countries separately signed a UN-brokered deal in Turkey on Friday allowing both countries to export grain.
“This is critical to the global food supply and the fact that after only one day of these negotiations, Russia will do in bad faith what they just agreed not to do,” Cheryl said. “The next day was really shocking and, quite frankly, very frustrating.”
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken It also condemned the strike in a statement on Saturday, “Russia has breached its obligations to attack the historic port from which it will again transport grain and agricultural exports under this arrangement.”
Russian forces have expanded their missile strikes in recent days to include cities across Ukraine, killing dozens, including children.
The Biden administration announced late Friday that it would send four satellite-guided missile launchers, known as HIMARS, to Ukraine — bringing the total to 16. Experts say Ukraine needs at least 60. Ukraine’s defense minister says he needs 100.
In the latest arms package to Ukraine, hundreds of drones and 36,000 artillery rounds were also included. An American fighter on the front lines in eastern Ukraine, who asked not to be named, told Ukraine’s Fox News that drones are shot down by the Russians every “four or five” missions.
Ukraine has enough weapons to keep it from losing, but not enough to defeat a Russia that continues to make increasing gains in the eastern Donbass region, some US officials admit.
Asked this week whether Ukraine’s Donbass region had been lost, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley told reporters that the region had not been lost “yet”.
