Nio’s ES7 SUV adds another contender to the Tesla X and Model Y models in China.

Chinese electric car maker New It reported Friday that it delivered nearly 13,000 vehicles in June, up 60% from last year, as China’s auto industry continued its recovery after months of epidemic-related disruptions.
The total of 12,961 deliveries was Nio’s best monthly result since it began sales to the public in June 2018. But that wasn’t enough to beat the company’s main competitors. XPeng Motors On Friday, it said it delivered 15,295 vehicles to customers in June, up 133 percent from last year. Also Friday, Li Auto announced the delivery of 13,024 SUVs last month, up 69% from last year.
The three automakers have experienced intermittent production disruptions since the onset of the Covid pandemic. But Nio, which is based in Shanghai and has factories in Hefei, has been hit hard by the latest outbreak. June was the first month with over 10,000 births since December.
Nio did not release details Friday on efforts to restore production. But it said it will start delivering its new upcoming ES7 SUV and revised versions of the ES8, ES6 and EC6 SUVs in August.
XPeng, which is based in southern China near Guangzhou, said it was able to resume production in two shifts in mid-May at its Zhaoqing plant. The company confirmed Friday that it plans to launch a new flagship SUV, the G9, in September. She said pre-orders for the G9 will open in August.
Li Auto, based in Changzhou, unveiled its new flagship vehicle, a large SUV called the L9, in June. The company earlier this week announced plans to Raised $2 billion by offering shares in the marketOn Friday, it said it expects to begin deliveries of the L9 by the end of August.
