UA friend of a teenager who was stabbed near his school told police last September that the teenager was attacked because he had “joined a gang and left”, he told a court, as quoted by Sky News here.
Kyrie McLean, 15, died after being attacked by two youths wearing balaclavas who were “waiting for him” outside a North Huddersfield trust school, an indictment said.
A 15-year-old boy pleaded guilty to manslaughter after stabbing Kyrie in the chest, while a 17-year-old boy is accused of stabbing the victim in the leg.
The older boy has denied murder and is on trial because, although he did not inflict the fatal blow, prosecutors say he acted in concert with fellow criminals. They felt that they “encouraged and supported each other to carry out the attack”.
In court, prosecutor George Hazel-Ovram, a 15-year-old friend of Kyrie’s who witnessed the fatal attack, told officers, “I thought it happened because Kyrie was in a gang and then left.”
“He thought Kyrie joined the gang in the middle of the tenth year”, explained the same source, citing the same friend of the deceased.
The case will continue to be investigated.
